Church of the Ascension Building Campaign |

WHO ARE WE?
The Church of the Ascension began with a handful of members on the banks of the Etowah River in 1844. Our present church building was begun in 1873. The first celebration of the Holy Eucharist was celebrated during the Easter Season in April of 1874, and the church was consecrated on November 6, 1875. In 1938 the present stained glass windows were secured for the Church of the Ascension from the Episcopal Church in Cave Springs, Georgia. The Church of the Ascension has been a vital part of this community for more than 160 years because of the dedication and work of faithful servants. In recent history, Ascension has become known for its ministry to others. |
A message from the Vestry and the I AM Committee
We believe that our parish has been called by God to minister to each other and to this community, and we want to continue to answer God's call. When God asks, "Whom shall I send to care for my people," we need to be able to respond, "Here I AM". As the community of Bartow County and Cartersville continues to grow, our church facilities are no longer adequate to foster the programs and activities needed for a church that is a vibrant presence in the community. To provide for those in need, to nurture our children's spiritual growth, to enjoy fellowship with each other, we need to update and expand our facilities.
An overall plan for our ultimate goal has been developed. This final goal has been divided into several phases. We believe this phased approach answers our immediate needs and balances those needs with what we are able to afford at this time.
This outlines the first phase (floor plan, elevation) in our expansion and renovation and our approach to accomplishing this goal. The major components of this phase are:
- A Parish Hall suitable in size for our congregation and balanced with the seating capacity of our church building,
- A larger kitchen,
- New offices for the Rector and Parish Administrator,
- New and larger bathrooms, handicapped accessible,
- A new choir room and vesting area,
- A second floor to the Parish Hall that can be used for outreach or classrooms.
The existing Parish Hall and Education Wing will not be disturbed, allowing it to be used during construction of the new building and then renovated in a later phase.
The aged Ascension House will be sold and moved to make way for the new facilities.
The front of the new building will be parallel with the front of the existing building and the floor level will be the same in both buildings to facilitate further expansion in the future. |
