Preparing for Holy Baptism
as an Adult
If you are
seeking baptism, you are urged to spend sometime living within
the faith community, getting to know the people, learning about
the worship and the various ministries which characterize the
parish. If you wish to enter an intensive process, known as the
catechumate, in preparation for Holy Baptism at the Great Vigil
of Easter, please speak with the rector.
The Catechumenate
begins on the First Sunday of Advent and moves through several
stages, each marked by a liturgical event, culminating at the
Great Vigil of Easter. Following Holy Baptism, the new Christian
prepares to be confirmed by the Bishop sometime during the Easter
Season. Prior to the process, the seeker asks someone in the parish
to be a sponsor or companion along the way. There are weekly sessions
with the priest, sponsors, and others. In these sessions, you
will learn about God, Jesus, the Church and her teachings. You
will also be able to reflect on such questions as Who am I? Where
am I going? What are my dreams and aspirations? Where is God in
my life? Jesus? Church?
The whole
process takes seriously your journey into faith, giving you an
opportunity to prepare for this life long commitment to Christ.
