Preparing Infants and Younger
Children for Holy Baptism
Parents who
desire that their child share in their Christian faith and life
are urged to present their child for baptism soon after birth.
Parents,
and godparents when possible, meet with the rector for three session
which prepare them for sharing the Christian life with their child.
It is not too early to begin these sessions during pregnancy.
During the
preparation sessions the following themes are discussed: "the
naming of the child", the baptismal process, the choosing
of godparents, the stages of faith, and the reception of Holy
Communion by young children. They also have an opportunity to
reflect on the meaning of Holy Baptism in the life of their child
and family.
Holy Baptism
is especially appropriate at the Easter Vigil, on the Day of Pentecost,
on All Saints' Day or the Sunday after All Saints' Day, on the
Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after Epiphany),
and whenever the Bishop makes his Visitation to the parish.
Either prior
to the baptism or soon after, it is encouraged that the child
participate in faith formation through the Christian Education
Program of the Parish.
If
