Preparing for Confirmation or
ReAffirmation of Baptism Promises
If you are
sixteen years of age or older and desire to make a mature public
affirmation of your baptismal vows, or if you wish to ReAffirm
your faith, you are invited to enter a process that is modeled
on the Catechumenate. This process, known as "The ReAffirmation
of Baptismal Promises" begins on the Second Sunday after
Epiphany (January) culminating with Confirmation or Reaffirmation
by the Bishop during the Easter Season.
As with the
catechumens, you enter an intensive period which moves through
several stages as you learn about God, Jesus, the Church, and
yourself. During the Lenten Season, you become a sign of continual
conversion for the faith community symbolized through your participation
in the Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday Liturgies. At the heart
of this process is your awareness that God is calling you into
discipleship, and not simply into the Episcopal Church, and that
as you give yourself to him, you will be empowered for your life,
work, and ministry in the world.
