VESTRY MEETING
May 15, 2007
The Vestry met in the Parish Hall on May 15, 2007 at 6:00 pm. Attending
were Fr. Tom Martin, Bev McGruder, Dan Baker, Neal Brunt, Nancy
Zerbe, Elizabeth Whitton, and Kelley Dial. Those excused were Roxane
Petron, Tom Manner and Brenda Worley. The meeting opened with prayer
and Bible study followed by member’s sharing their reflection
on the scripture.
The Vestry shared some of the ways they have seen God at work in
the last month.
The Rector presented the March Minutes. Kelley Dial asked to amend
the Minutes to state that Brenda Worley was excused from the April
Vestry meeting and remove the duplication of Nancy Zerbe’s
name. Elizabeth Whitton to accept the Minutes as amended. Kelly
Dial seconded and the motion carried.
The Rector read correspondence from the University of the South
School of Theology thanking the Parish for our past financial support.
Neal Brunt presented the March Financial Report. After discussion,
Nancy Zerbe moved the report be accepted as presented. Dan Baker
seconded and the motion carried.
In Tom Manner’s absence, Dan Baker presented a letter from
Tom as Chair of the I AM Committee. This letter and the accompanying
floor plan were drafted in an effort to update the congregation
regarding the planned Parish Life Center. After some discussion,
Dan moved to approve the letter with some minor corrections and
clarifications, to the members of the Parish. Kelley Dial seconded
and the motion carried.
In ongoing business, the following ACTION ITEMS were presented:
• Kelley Dial reported that the Revised Draft of the By-Laws
have been sent to Brad Paulk, Chair of the Revision Committee, and
forwarded on to the Diocese.
• Kelley Dial reported the Ministry Mission Statements are
in process.
• Kelly Dial reported that photographs and name tags is an
ongoing process. She will use the opportunity presented at Vacation
Church School to take more photos.
• Dan Baker reported that Fredrick Knight has the protective
covers for the stained glass window on his schedule.
• The Rector opened discussion about Diocesan Council Delegates
for this year. He suggested that as Senior Warden, Bev McGruder
be one of the nominees for Delegate. Nancy Zerbe was also asked
if she would like to be the other nominee as the second Delegate
and she agreed. Nancy had been the alternate last year. Other names
were discussed as possible alternates.
The Rector asked that three priorities been identified from the
Vestry Retreat by Brenda Worley, Kelley Dial and Dan Baker at the
May meeting.
In new business, the Rector reminded the Vestry of the following:
• The date for the Festival of Ministries has been changed
to September 9th
• The Stewardship Campaign (Treasure) will begin October 14th
• The budgeting process for 2008 begins soon. The Rector will
send a letter with the Quarterly Statements
• Reports will be due in June from Christian Education, Fellowship
and Pastoral Care
• The Vestry Priorities for June are Strategic Plan, Systems
Manual, Eucharistic Ministers
• The June Vestry Meeting will be Tuesday, June 26th
• Dan Baker reported that the Ascension House HVAC unit has
been repaired. However, the unit in the Parish Hall is beyond repair
and the initial bid was estimated at $6880.00 to replace the system.
Neil Brunt stated that money is budgeted for repairs. This money
is in the Money Market Account. Neil moved to use $5600.00 from
the budget to apply to the replacement of the Parish Hall unit.
Dan Baker seconded and the motion carried.
• Kelley Dial moved to obtain three competitive bids not to
exceed $6800.00 for the replacement of the Parish Hall HVAC system
and based on the best of these bids; allow the Buildings and Grounds
Committee to proceed without further Vestry action. Dan Baker seconded
and the motion carried.
• Kelley Dial reported that Drew Tonsmeire agreed to chair
the Strategic Planning Committee.
Important Dates
May 17th – Ascension Day
May 27th – Feast of Pentecost
June 18 – 22 – VCS
July 15th – Episcopal Visitation with reception and Vestry
Meeting afterwards.
The Senior Warden reported that the Time and Talent inserts in
the Sunday bulletin will begin on May 27th. .
The Rector reported that the Daily Tribune News would run an ad
similar to one run in the New York Times. The ad describes what
the Episcopal Church believes and invites new comers to join us.
.The ad will run on May 20th.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned and closed
with prayer.
