VESTRY MEETING MINUTES
CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION
DECEMBER 9, 2007

Those attending the Vestry meeting following the 2007 Annual Parish Meeting were Dan Baker, Brenda Worley, Kelley Dial, Tommy Manner, Nancy Zerbe, Connie Evans, Neal Brunt, and Roxane Petron. Also in attendance were the newly elected members, Jamie Hamilton, Susan McLeod, John Newman and Kathi White.

The Senior Warden called the meeting to order. He suggested that the members be mindful of who would like to represent the various Servant Ministries and to submit their requests by email to him. He also suggested that the election of the Junior Warden take place at the December 16th meeting which will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the blue room in the education building.

Susan McLeod asked that the Vestry be intentional about communication not only within the Vestry but with the congregation and community as well. She volunteered to change the outgoing message on the answering machine which has been incorrect for two weeks. There was also discussion about signage on the doors and in front of the church giving service times.

Questions came up about the date and the location of the 2008 Vestry retreat. Dan Baker indicated that the retreat was sometime in February and was scheduled to be at Kanuga Retreat Center in North Carolina. He indicated that there was a non-refundable deposit. Nancy Zerbe said that the Vestry should lead by example and find a less expensive location and look at something nearby to prevent the ten hour round trip. Jamie Hamilton offered to check on pricing at Red Top Mountain Inn. Connie Evans offered her farm house if this was to be a daytime only retreat and also indicated she had two prior engagements in February. Other members also indicated conflicts in February. Susan McLeod asked if we could look at a January date. Kelley Dial also reminded the Vestry that they might need to wait until an Interim Rector is hired.

Nancy Zerbe reported theft and damage of items from the locked panty and asked that the Sunday school rooms be locked when not in use.

Brenda Worley reminded members that she needs information for the newsletter from the various ministries since she will no longer be on the Vestry.

This being an abbreviated meeting and there being no further business, the meeting adjourned by acclimation.

Respectfully submitted,
